What seeds should not be purchased for sowing?
Traditionally, in the season of increased demand for seed material, we remind you that:
- sowing purchased non-certified seeds infringes the exclusive right to a variety (PBR) and may result in sanctions
- offering and selling non-certified seeds for sowing purposes is also an infringement of the exclusive right
WHAT SEEDS SHOULD NOT BE PURCHASED FOR SOWING?
- offered by advertisers on the Internet or in the press, or by random sellers at marketplaces (usually they do not have the permission to trade in seed material and illegally sell non-certified seeds for sowing)
- from a neighbour, acquaintance, colleague (the so-called neighbour exchange)
- from the so-called “bargains” (“certified seed” at a suspiciously low price, without an official label or invoice, disqualified material from a seed plantation, etc.)
- feed, consumption or other non-seed material, regardless of whether they are intended for main sowing or catch crops
HOW TO LEGALLY SELL SEED MATERIAL?
A farmer who wants to produce and introduce seed material to the market shall first:
- obtain a license from the Breeder whose variety will be the subject of sale
- register with Plant Health And Seed Inspection (PIORiN) as an entity conducting trade in seed material and report the seed plantation
If the farmer do not complete these formalities, he will infringe the Act on the Legal Protection of Plant Varieties and the Seed Act.
